Work Experience

Welcome to Work Experience at Manitowoc Lincoln High School!

Work Experience provides students with the opportunity to develop and practice employability skills in a workplace setting, gain valuable feedback on these skills from their employers, and reflect on how these skills transfer to their future career goals.

In order to be successful and gain credit for Work Experience, students must:
1. have a legitimate job (i.e. on-the-payroll)
2. complete the required number of work hours based on the number of periods they are enrolled in Work Experience.
-- 90 work hours within the semester (~5 hours per week) to earn .5 credit.
-- 180 work hours within the semester (~10 hours per week) to earn 1.0 credit.
--270 work hours within the semester (~15 hours per week) to earn 1.5 credit.
3. complete and submit ALL assignments.

WI Employability Skills Certificate
Upon successful completion of this program, students may earn the Wisconsin Employability Skills Certificate. This certificate recognizes a student’s mastery of employability skills valued by employers in a variety of worksite settings while helping students explore career interests. This is a great resume builder to help you stand out to future employers!

Grading & Assignments
Student grades are cumulative over the entire semester, based on evidence of learning and growth for each of the priority standards below. All assignments are submitted to Google Classroom.

Completion of ALL assignments is REQUIRED to pass the course.
If you are missing an assignment your grade will reflect an INCOMPLETE until turned in.

Our Priority Standards:

  1. Identify and demonstrate positive work behaviors and personal qualities needed to be employable.
    Evidence: Quarterly Worksite Evaluations

  2. Identify and exhibit traits for retaining employment.
Evidence: Required employment verification and documentation of hours i.e. Program Agreement, timesheets, hour requirement met

  3. Apply academic experiences to the world of work, inter-relationships and in the community.
Evidence: Quarterly Reflections, Employer Thank-You, Workplace Photo

Attendance
In accordance with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, student learners may be allowed to work during school hours if the student is enrolled in a work-based learning program.

Good attendance is extremely important in school and for future career success. Start good habits now by being in your scheduled classes on time and every day. Excessive unexcused absences from school may result in the temporary loss of your early release privileges, which may impact your work availability.

Suspension or Expulsion
Work Experience is a school program, so a suspension from school will impact your work availability. State Child Labors Laws prohibit work during times that minors are required to be in school, except for students participating in work experience and career exploration programs operated by the school.
