The Manitowoc Public School District announces administrative hires and changes for the 2019-2020 school year. Some hires were previously announced; others were approved by the MPSD Board of Education at its July 23 meeting.


MPSD Superintendent Mark Holzman thanked administrators who recently retired for their many years of dedicated service to students, families and the community. “We are grateful for all they have done and we wish them the best,” Holzman said. “We are excited to welcome our new principals and pleased that we were able to promote many of our talented, caring staff to new district leadership roles.”


Riverview Elementary School and Riverview Early Learning Center: Heidi Schroderus will serve as Principal of Riverview Elementary School and Riverview Early Learning Center. Schroderus since 2013 has been Principal at Stangel Elementary, whose school boundaries are moving to Riverview as part of the MPSD grade alignment. Longtime Riverview Early Learning Center Principal Cathi Burish retired. Schroderus received her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh and master’s degree in reading from UW - Oshkosh and Educational Leadership from Marian University.


Washington Middle School: Lance Masters will serve as Principal of Washington Middle School, succeeding Kathy Lemberger who retired. Masters has 20 years of experience in education, including the past three years as Lincoln High School Associate Principal. Prior to joining MPSD, Masters lived and worked in Oregon where his experience included serving as a middle school vice principal and athletic director. Masters received his bachelor's degree from Wabash College and his master’s degree from Concordia University


Lincoln High School: Katie Eichmann will serve as Associate Principal of Lincoln High School, succeeding Lance Masters who is becoming Principal at Washington Middle School. Eichmann began her career in the MPSD at Lincoln High School as a Special Education Teacher. For the past five years she has served as a district Program Support Teacher. She received her bachelor's degree from Silver Lake College and her master’s degree in Leadership and Supervision and Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University.


Monroe Elementary: Andrea Friis will serve as Principal of Monroe Elementary School, succeeding Bill Bertsche who retired. Friis joins the MPSD from the Green Bay Public School District where she most recently served as a District Literacy Coach. She also has served as a Reading Teacher, Fourth Grade Teacher and Advanced Senior Therapist. Friis received her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh and her master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.


Madison Elementary: Stacie Opahle will serve as Principal at Madison Elementary School and Summer School Principal, succeeding Matt Malcore who resigned. Opahle has served as Principal at Jefferson Elementary School since July 2015. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse, a master’s degree in Education from St. Norbert College, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University.


Jefferson Elementary: Courtney DeArmond will serve as Principal at Jefferson Elementary School, succeeding Stacie Opahle who is becoming Principal at Madison Elementary. DeArmond most recently served as Assistant Principal at Wilson Middle School and previously taught 5th grade at Jefferson Elementary. Prior to joining MPSD, she taught 7th grade literacy in Chilton and 5th grade at an Illinois school district. DeArmond received her bachelor's degree from Concordia University-Chicago and her master’s degree from Northern Illinois Univer
