Hello, my name is Gwen Fiecko. I have been teaching in the Manitowoc Public
School District for fourteen years. I have taught
7th grade English through 11th grade English. I have taught 21st Century Communications, formerly known as MultiMedia Communications. The name change and the curriculum are truly more representative of the digital world in which we live. The class centers around English, Art, and Technology. Further, it incorporates 21st Century Skills, English Common Core Standards, and IB Art standards.
In 2001, I earned a BA in English and certification in grades 6 through 12 at Silver Lake College. Additionally, I have a minor in Computer Science.
In 2010, I graduated from Marian University with a Masters Degree in Education and a concentration in Educational Technology. Currently I am enrolled in an Administrative Leadership program through Silver Lake College.
I presented at the Google Mini Summit in March 2014 and March 2015. I am currently working on Google Teacher certification. I applied for acceptance to the Google Teacher Summit and created this video. Thousands of people apply for acceptance, but few are chosen. I am one of the thousands who applied and was not chosen. But, I had fun creating the video. Enjoy. Oh, and I have the coolest Google glasses on the planet!
In the Fall of 2011, I presented at the Learning Partnership Conference at UWGB. My presentation centered on incorporating technology into the classroom.
When I am not teaching, I make websites for small businesses and non-profit organizations and I make ponds in my backyard. I have four ponds with numerous happy fish. More than 15 frogs moved in to this balanced eco-system.
I have three children who were educated in the Manitowoc Public School District and the UW system. Due to the educational excellence they received in grades K - 12, they were successful in college and they are successful in life.
