Welcome Mr. Nielsen!
Our administrative team is excited to welcome a new Associate Principal to Lincoln: Cody Nielsen. He comes to us from Oconto Falls High School where he serves as a Special Education Teacher, Wrestling Head Coach and Boys Golf Assistant Coach.
Nielsen will join fellow Lincoln Associate Principals Lainey Longmeyer and Ben Ruechel beginning next school year, pending approval by the MPSD Board of Education.
Colleagues who worked with Nielsen said he has an incredible ability to build relationships with students, especially those who may be struggling in school. He genuinely cares about every student and helps them overcome their obstacles.
“I want my students to know that no matter their limitations, they can become successful, productive adults and that I will do whatever I can to help them achieve their goals,” Nielsen said. “I recognize their strengths and focus on their abilities, not their disabilities. I make it my mission each year to continually find ways to get kids involved, regardless of their ethnic, economic or academic status.”
He also builds relationships through sports. Wrestling is a lifelong love for Nielsen, who wrestled for UW-Stevens Point after being a key member of his Oconto Falls High School varsity team that won the 2010 Division 2 State Championship. (He won an individual WIAA State Championship in 2011.) He also played football and baseball in high school.
Nielsen is pursuing his Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. He has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Special Education from UW-Stevens Point, and has worked as a special education teacher in middle and high school since 2018.
Fellow Oconto Falls High School special education teacher Michelle Desterheft said Nielsen always steps up to help as a leader. When the district struggled to find drivers for a van that transported some students to school, he became a driver. When the school couldn’t find an assistant coach for the boy’s golf team, he became that coach. As head coach for the wrestling team, he reinforced academics by hosting mandatory study sessions on Sunday nights to make sure his athletes were eligible during their season. He helped raise more than $2,000 for local mental health resources for students.
Please welcome Cody Nielsen to our SHIPS team!
